I've tried SNS-HDR and Easy-HDR and both have given me good results but after some time using both I concluded Photomatix gave me better quality more consistently. I really don't want/need any elaborate HDR toning (I'd rather do that in DXO) and the lowest-cost version of Photomatix does nearly everything the most expensive version does except provide dozens of (ugly, in my view) toning pre-sets.

For HDR I have settled on the "essentials" version of Photomatix.

There is no choice, however, about when to do the noise processing: DXO will not process the bit-mapped image returned from the external app with any of its "magic sauce" so you must process the raw files before you send them to the external app or forego one of the main benefits of using DXO. for the former and 25 secs for the latter. This makes the round-trip to another app feasible and pretty quick.ĮXCEPT that either Prime or Deep Prime processing of the image exported (as TIFF or JPEG) from DXO slows everything down: for me, 12-15 secs. DXO will 'export' to almost any other app and I've found (on a Mac) that images saved from an external app back to the original folder will almost always show up immediately in the "LIbrary" module. Pretty much all of the competitive raw-developers now do so (although Skylum chooses to offer an "extension" for a subscription price). It's true, from one point of view, DXO is "behind the game" in not offering any sort of raw merging/imposition. I am aware of some of the products that do focus stacking but do they also do HDR? Helicon? Affinity?

I have been looking seriously at DXO Photolab and was wondering white people use to do HDR or focus stacking? As I search for new software I did not realize that the cost of Adobe‘s photography plan that would include Photoshop has doubled.
